National Measles Campaign: Zamfara targets 1.2m children

The Zamfara State Government on Monday said that it was targeting 1.2 million children across the state for the 2017 measles campaign.

The state Commissioner of Health, Alhaji Sulaiman Gummi, disclosed this at a press conference in Gusau.

Gummi said that children aged nine to 59 months would be given the vaccine to prevent them from being affected by measles and other five child killer diseases.

He said that the state government had released N17 million for the exercise through the local government health basket funds under the ministry of local government and chieftaincy affairs.

According to him, the state government and UNICEF have mobilised 1,058 teams to carry out the exercise across the state.

He said Gov. Abdul’aziz Yari had already directed all traditional rulers, civil servants and political office holders to support the exercise in their areas.

He urged members of the public to allow their children to be vaccinated so that the children would grow up in good health.

He commended the support and assistance given to the state health sector by the international donor organizations like UNICEF and WHO.
